Memories That Last A Lifetime

I am definitely one of those people who lives to take a photo of a moment rather than living in the moment… I know I know it’s bad! But I just love having photos to look back and reminisce on.

In the summer I went on holiday to the Maldives with my family and boyfriend. Obviously I took my phone to take photos on, but I knew in such a beautiful location I just had to take my polaroid camera. I don’t know what it is about polaroids but I absolutely love mine. I think it is because you get the image instantly, and the image is never perfect but sort of retro, it tells a story. I then like to put my polaroids either up in frames or in my scrapbook, honestly looking through a scrapbook of polaroids brings me so much joy.

The polaroid I own is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 90. I really wanted this polaroid because as clique as it sounds I really wanted something different from everyone else and because the photos on this camera are supposed to be slightly higher quality than some of the other Fujifilm polaroids. I could not be more pleased with this camera, I use it a lot more than I thought I ever would and having the pictures print out straight away is just so exciting.

The film for the camera is also not too high in price. I tend to buy my film from Amazon and usually go for the pack of 20 shots at around £15. If you use your film wisely, you can definitely get your moneys worth out of a pack! However, as I found out when I first bought my camera, it does take a little while to get used to the settings and which setting you need to use for which environment. I definitely had a few dud shots out of my first couple of film packs!

When in the most beautiful place on earth (in my personal opinion), I used this camera a lot to capture family shots along with scenic shots, it was fab and I even managed to teach my mum to use it! Which was a massive bonus because it meant if my boyfriend wasn’t around, she could take some photos of me.

I travelled to Meeru Island in the Maldives and oh my gosh it was incredible. I mean seriously incredible, it took my breath away and after a heck of a lot of travelling (2 long haul flights, a 6 hour wait in an airport and a 1 hour horrific boat trip) it made it all worth it!

I stepped off that boat into paradise. White sands, blue sea and sunshine… a lot of sunshine! The island we stayed on was one of the larger islands in the Maldives, however you could walk round it entirely in about 45 minutes, along the beautiful sandy beaches, not a stone in sight. The island is officially known as Meerufenfushi, and is in the North Male Atoll.

My family opted to stay in the Jacuzzi Beach Villa’s, which were beautiful. We were literally on the beach about 100 metres from the sea and had a beautiful porch we could sit on during the day and evening. The room was beautiful with a four poster bed in the centre, and through the back was an outside bathroom (how amazing!), but my favourite part had to be the jacuzzi/hot tub in the garden, I spent a lot of time in there!

The island was busy but at the same time super quiet if that makes sense? There was a lot of people staying on the island however you never had to fight for a sun bed or get up at the crack of dawn to try and reserve them! No one wants to be doing that on their holiday, right? The island also offered varied amounts of nightlife from discos, to singers on the beach, there was something to suit everyone.

The island also offers really good snorkelling in the surrounding lagoon. I am quite a wuss when it comes snorkelling but I was determined to give it a go. My family managed to see a shark, but I scarpered out the sea at that point. However I was brave enough to watch a stingray under some of the water villas, I honestly feel so lucky to have witnessed this amazing creature in its natural habitat.

Now onto my favourite part of the island, the swimming pools! Anyone who knows me knows I absolutely love swimming and being in water, so I was so excited when I found out Meeru had an infinity pool and another deep pool. I had so much fun messing with my family and my boyfriend and I spent an embarrassing amount of time taking photos and videos with the Go Pro.

Basically what I am saying is if you ever get the opportunity to visit the Maldives, take it! It honestly is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
