Happy Valentine’s Day!
The day of love is upon us! Whether you spending time with your partner, friends of even family, I hope you are enjoying a day full of love and happiness.
I wanted to write a post about valentine’s day and how my views about it have changed over the years. Don’t get me wrong I have never hated valentine’s day but there have certainly been years when I have enjoyed it more than others.
Before I was in a relationship I obviously didn’t really celebrate valentine’s day, I just used to spend time with friends. I didn’t really see what the big deal was and just thought it was another day where people are made to feel like they need to buy their loved ones presents.
Since having a boyfriend though my opinions have changed. I’ve realised valentines day is much more about spending time with the person you love rather than buying or receiving gifts. I am now celebrating my 5th valentine’s day with my lovely boyfriend and throughout the years valentine’s day has become more and more special.
Every year I always make sure that I make time to spend with my boyfriend. Most of the time it’s on valentines day but on the odd occasion that I am super busy, like this year, we have planned to go away together for a spa break.
I know people will say why does there have to be a day where you ‘have’ to celebrate with your loved one but I’ve come to view valentine’s day as a little reminder to spend time with your loved one. Also it’s a great excuse to take some time for your partner without any interruptions.
I know I can sometimes get carried away with work and not spend as much time with my boyfriend as either of us would like, so it’s nice to have an excuse to spend some quality time with him!
Also I do love an excuse to go for a nice dinner and wear my favourite outfit!
Valentine’s day is such a lovely day and I think also breaks up the boring winter months after Christmas. I also think valentines day is super cute with all the red roses, chocolates hearts and balloons. I definitely don’t think you have to be in a relationship to celebrate valentine’s either, I think it is just as important to spend time with loved ones or friends at this time of year!
I’d love to know how you celebrate valentines day, let me know in the comments!
