As you may have noticed, I’ve taken a couple of weeks off of blogging over the festive period. Not only was this so I could spend time with friends and family but because on Saturday 22nd December my amazing other half got down on one knee and asked me to become his wife! I’ve been so excited the last two weeks enjoying everything being engaged has to offer, so I thought I would share my engagement story as my first post of 2019!
It all started back in August when a spontaneous trip out ended with my other half and I walking past a jewellery shop window and spotting the most beautiful gold engagement ring. We both said we really liked it but I commented that I personally didn’t think I would wear a gold ring. I had also seen another silver ring in the window which I preferred the shoulders of. We both then had a mooch at the rest of the window and headed off for brunch, me not really thinking anymore of it.
At the end of brunch we were walking back up to the town centre when my other half said we should go into the jewellery shop and see if they could make the ring in silver, I literally thought he was joking! Two minutes later we were in the shop talking to a sales assistant. It was a very surreal experience as we sat there and talked about creating a bespoke ring out of the two rings we had spotted in the window. It was even more surreal getting to try on different engagement rings… it was a dream! We left the shop having agreed that a ring design would be sent to us in a couple of weeks.
A couple of weeks later we headed back to the shop to hear all about the design. Unfortunately, our design got lost in translation and they had quoted to change the gold ring to silver, without the shoulders from the second silver ring. However, the lovely sales assistant went and got the shop owner (how amazing?) to come and have a chat with us and within about 10 minutes both rings had been retrieved to have another look at (I went and found the second ring again in the window, the sales assistant was shocked I found it again so quickly!) and the owner had whipped up a hand drawn design of my dream engagement ring!
We were told the ring would take six weeks to make and my partner would get a call to come and collect it. When he collected the ring he took my mum and his mum (both of which got their rings from the same jewellers) which was so special and even though I didn’t go, (even though I so wanted to see the ring!) I’m so glad he got to experience that with both of our mums! My other half then hid the ring and told me that I probably wouldn’t get the ring for a long time so not to get my hopes up!
Fast forward about two months and we get to the day my fiancé decided to ask me to become his wife. It was three days before Christmas and my brother and I had decided to host a Christmas party. Unbeknownst to me, my parents were in on it, so my mum found a way to convince me to get my nails painted white and silver and offered to buy me a new outfit! They had also hidden some bottles of champagne in the cupboard to celebrate after.
The night of the party arrived and I spent time getting ready with my friend and preparing for later. The party started and all of our friends started arriving. A couple of our friends were running late as they had broken down, so this meant he popped the question slightly later than he wanted. Again, unbeknown to me, while I was getting merry having a fab time, my other half snuck off upstairs and decorated our lounge with red rose petals and put a huge sign up that said ‘Will you marry me?”. It was the most perfect setting.
He then quickly came downstairs and found me, pretending he wanted me to come get another drink with him and snuck me upstairs. He walked me into the room with my eye’s shut, flicked the light on, got down on one knee and asked me to become his wife! Naturally, I burst into tears with the shear shock and happiness of it all and he had to remind me that I hadn’t actually answered! Obviously I said Yes. It was the most perfect intimate moment shared between just him and I in the most thoughtful and romantic setting. Oh and of course, the ring was just truly stunning and everything I had ever wished for!
It was then made even better by the fact we could then go downstairs and announce the news to all of our close friends, who were so happy for us both! Out came the champagne and we spent the rest of the night celebrating. It really was the most special evening, filled with so so many memories that I will cherish forever.
So there we have it, I am a fiancée and will be getting married to my favourite person in the world! I’m so glad I have the opportunity to share my story so that I can look back on it forever!
